The Clifton StrengthsFinder is a Web-based assessment of normal personality from the perspective of Positive Psychology. The assessment was developed by Gallup, Inc. and is the first instrument of this type developed expressly for the Internet.

How it works

Over a secure connection, the Clifton StrengthsFinder presents 177 items to you. Each item consists of a pair of potential self-descriptors, such as “I read instructions carefully” versus “I like to jump right into things.” The descriptors are placed as if anchoring polar ends of a continuum. You are then asked to choose the descriptor that best describes you, and to identify the extent to which that chosen option is descriptive of you. You are given 20 seconds to respond to a given pair of descriptors before the assessment automatically presents the next pair.

Following the assessment, you will be presented with your “Top Five Talent Themes” report, from a list of the 34 Talent Themes identified by Gallup.   This report will start you down the path of understanding and developing your top five strengths.  You are able to receive your Full 34 report at any time.

The 34 Talent Themes

The 34 Talent Themes are as follows:

  • Achiever – Gains great satisfaction from being busy and productive
  • Activator – Makes things happen; turn thoughts into actions
  • Adaptability – Prefers to ‘go with the flow’
  • Analytical –  Searches for reasons and causes; can think about all factors
  • Arranger – Can organize: figure out how all the pieces and resources bring productivity
  • Belief – Believes core values are unchanging; defined purpose for life
  • Command – Has presence; can take control and make decisions
  • Communication – Is a good conversationalists or presenter; can put thoughts into words
  • Competition – Measures  progress against the performance of others
  • Connectedness – Has faith in the links between all things; every event has a reason
  • Consistency – Is aware of the need to treat people the same; loves fairness
  • Context – Understands the present by thinking about the past
  • Deliberative – Takes serious care in making decisions or choices
  • Developer – Recognizes and cultivates the potential in others
  • Discipline – Enjoys routine and structure
  • Empathy – Senses the feelings of other people; puts themselves in others ‘shoes’
  • Focus – Can take direction, follow through, and make corrections to stay on track
  • Futuristic – Inspired by the future and what could be
  • Harmony – Loves consensus
  • Ideation – Looks for the big picture; loves new ideas
  • Includer – Accepting of others; loves to includes those left out
  • Individualization – Intrigued with the unique qualities of each person
  • Input – Craves to know more; collects and archives
  • Intellection – Loves to think; introspective; appreciates intellectual discussions
  • Learner – Loves the process of learning
  • Maximizer – Seeks to transform; from good to better
  • Positivity – Loves enthusiasm (and it’s contagious)
  • Relator – Enjoys close relationships with others
  • Responsibility – Takes psychological ownership and completes follow-through
  • Restorative –  Adept at dealing with problems; loves to resolve problems
  • Self-Assurance – Confident that their decisions are right
  • Significance – Seeks to be important in the eyes of others
  • Strategic – Loves to see the alternative
  • Woo – Loves meeting new people
